Welcome to 100 Elk! Located in Buena Vista, the 100 Elk Outdoor Center is a public program of the A\/U Ranches and provides outdoor education and character development programs for schools and groups. We\u2019ve put together several resources for parents and guardians to help prepare for their students\u2019 trips to 100 Elk.<\/p>\n
Whether it\u2019s your student\u2019s first trip or third, we are excited to have them here. We find that when students stay multiple days away from home, school, etc., they find new friendships, gain a deeper appreciation for nature, as well as return home as part of a more connected community.<\/p>\n
Our mission here at 100 Elk is \u201cRevealing the possibilities within.\u201d Our staff works closely with participants to set and achieve goals — as well as to help them discover valuable and unknown abilities, talents and knowledge. We love our chaperones because we couldn\u2019t do it without them! Some schools bring teachers and other administrators, and some schools depend largely upon parents to support their trips. We recommend schools bring a 1:6 ratio of chaperones to students. Chaperones live in cabins with the students, and they lend a helping hand during activities and meal times. If you\u2019re considering being a 100 Elk chaperone, take a look at our expectations:<\/p>\n
Whether you\u2019re dropping off a student or just want to know where we\u2019re located, we have a full page on our website dedicated to maps and directions<\/a>. If driving, you will see signs for the A\/U Ranches on County Road 366, which is the same property, so if you see them, you\u2019re on the right track. Follow signs on property up to 100 Elk at Round-Up Ranch.<\/p>\n If your student has specific dietary or special needs, we recommend coordinating directly with your group or school. Groups fill out dietary and special needs forms before they arrive, so it is helpful to provide that information to your group\u2019s trip leader. Groups are asked to bring a medical appointee with them to distribute medications and serve as the point of contact for any medical emergencies.
